A1GP World Cup of Motorsport
The A1GP Series is a new and unique format that utilizes motorsport for nations to compete on a level playing field and to celebrate national pride in an exciting, adrenaline-fuelled environment. The series, brought to life by A1GP founder, president and chairperson, His Highness The Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum of the Royal Family of Dubai, marries technology and innovation to deliberately equalize the racing arena. With this approach in place, performance is determined by human bravery, skill and excellence. The stage is set for national pride to thrive.
The series, with a strong focus on the human component, takes its name from the two key aspects of the World Cup of Motorsport, unity and excellence. The letter 'A' was chosen for being the first letter of the majority of the world's continents (Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Australasia, Antarctica and Europe) and represents the world and its population. The number '1' signifies the unity between them -- All as One, One World. In most languages, 'A1' is a term used to describe the best and A1GP is designed to display the pinnacle of driver skill and national pride.
A1GP is more than just another motorsport phenomenon; it's an entirely new sport - The World Cup of Motorsport. Visiting 11 countries on 6 continents and pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time in history, A1GP brings together 25 nations representing 80 per cent of the world's population to actively compete on this level playing field. This unique concept has won the support and involvement of such sporting celebrities as Alan Jones, Renaldo, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jan Lemmers, Luiz Figo, South African businessman Toyko Sexwale.
From a commercial perspective, A1GP has created a new medium for national and international brands and organizations to promote themselves on a global scale.
