A BRIEF HISTORY
A1 TEAM USA Holdings
A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, came to Owner Rick Weidinger's attention as national franchises were being bid for the new series. As a successful Indy Racing League owner (Kelly Racing), Rick immediately recognized the potential of A1GP due to the unique "identical car, identical technology" format. Rick believed immediately that A1GP victories would be predicated more by the cohesion of national teammates than other factors. The potential of the passion of patriotism played out on a world stage, in a format that touches a personal aspiration -to win racing championships, captivated him. Weidinger, along with minority partners and friends Rusty Lewis and Bill Dean, finalized the franchise acquisition in July of 2005.
Rick's immediate vision was to approach The World Cup of Motorsport competition in a manner representative of how our nation ultimately came together that is, by groups of people with unique differences coming together to form a powerful whole. Rick considered ways to convey this concept, and three words, masterfully stroked by our Founding Fathers kept coming to mind-"We The People."
"We The People"-a statement of who we are as a country, as individuals and as a functioning, competitive team. A phrase that applies to all sectors of our population and reflective of our spirit as a country and what The United States of America stands for on a global stage.
There was little doubt that the most visible element of A1 TEAM USA Holdings, the race car, should carry this theme. Before Rick did anything else, he christened A1 TEAM USA's Holdings race car "We The People" and commissioned world renowned Pop artist Steve Kaufman to design the unique American flag motif emblazoned across the chassis.
In September of 2005, A1 TEAM USA Holdings joined the international field for the very first A1GP World Cup of Motorsport at the historic Brands Hatch circuit in Great Britain...
