Washington D.C. - On Sunday March 11, 2007, A1 TEAM USA of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will be taking part in the 36th Annual Washington D.C. St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A1 TEAM USA members along with thirty children with diverse backgrounds from the Greater Washington D.C. area will march down Constitution Avenue alongside the float representing the 66th Greater Washington D.C. Soap Box Derby and will hand out green A1 TEAM USA beads to parade-goers.
“We are really looking forward to participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade along with the Greater Washington D.C. Soap Box Derby and the American Red Cross,” said A1 TEAM USA Owner Rick Weidinger. “The Washington D.C. St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the best attended parades in Washington, and I know the groups of children coming with us on Sunday are going to have a ball marching along and being the reason for our festivities.” Weidinger continued, “How can you beat the day – Irish, green beads, bands, floats, leprechauns, bag pipes, American Red Cross and the wonderful children from the Greater Washington D.C. area walking and smiling beside the D. C. Soap Box Derby float sponsored by A1 TEAM USA. In this parade, everyone is a winner!”
Sunday’s parade march with the Soap Box Derby float is one of several events taking place in preparation for this year’s Greater Washington D.C. Soap Box Derby which will be held on the streets of our Nation’s Capitol on June 16, 2007.
A1 TEAM USA, in partnership with the American Red Cross, is a proud sponsor of the 2007 Greater Washington D.C. Soap Box Derby and Sunday’s parade march. A1 TEAM USA will also be sponsoring the D.C. Soap Box Derby Assembly Weekend on May 5, 2007 during which derby participants will build and assemble their A1 TEAM USA derby cars with the help of Derby directors, A1 TEAM USA drivers, and local sports celebrities. The Assembly Day will be held at Passport BMW at 12 noon.
The theme of this year's Washington D.C. St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Volunteers Weave Communities Together. Nancy McKelvey, Chief Nurse of the American Red Cross, will preside as the Grand Marshal of the Parade which will step off at noon on Sunday, March 11th from 7th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. This year an estimated 20,000 spectators will watch over 100 military and law enforcement units, marching bands, bagpipe bands, mounted units, floats, Irish dance groups, drill teams, kennel groups, labor groups and Irish American community organizations march the one-mile parade route.
